Introducing, Strategy Society! Strategy Society is a program series designed specifically for business development professionals that will elevate your leadership and communication skills. The first session in the series is an exclusive discussion about Emotional Intelligence with Sheila Schmidt. This two hour program will include light bites and drinks provided by our gracious host CIS - this will be the perfect time to reflect on what we learned and share our own stories with each other.

Emotional Intelligence: The Key to Business Development Success

Emotional intelligence (EQ) isn’t just a leadership skill—it’s a game-changer for business development professionals. The ability to read the room, build strong relationships, and navigate challenges with confidence directly impacts sales, client retention, and overall success. Research shows 90% of top performers have high EQ, making it a key differentiator in winning work and fostering long-term partnerships.

This interactive session will focus on how EQ enhances business development strategies, from improving client interactions to handling objections with emotional awareness. Attendees will assess their own EQ strengths, learn practical strategies to enhance communication and relationship-building skills, and apply EQ principles to real-world BD scenarios. Through engaging exercises and real-life examples, participants will gain tools to manage stress, navigate difficult conversations, and strengthen collaboration across teams.

You will gain insights into:

  • The role of EQ in handling objections, negotiations, and high-stakes conversations
  • Strategies for enhancing self-awareness and emotional regulation
  • Managing stress and maintaining resilience in fast-paced environments
